Kraken's Wake Expansion - Now Live!

Ten years ago, we set out to rebuild the greatest game of all time.

What began as a passion project has grown into something far bigger, thanks to a team that never gave up and a community that stuck with us through every step.

Over the years, artists, programmers, designers, writers, and testers have poured their hearts into every update. This release is the result of that decade of effort, and it stands out as the most ambitious work we've done yet.

This is a day that many of us thought to be impossible… a day we have waited nearly 20 years for.

The sea stirs. The clouds gather. And something ancient awakens from the depths… and yes, it's got tentacles.

On September 19th, 2013, Pirates of the Caribbean Online officially closed its doors. For most games, that would be the end of the story... But this one? This one refused to die.

What should have been a forgotten relic of the 2000s became something else entirely. Something much more extraordinary.

It all started with a dream. A dream of something better. A dream of what could be, and what should be.

And for a dream that bold to come true, ye have to be just the right kind of crazy. That’s where we came in.

Ten years ago, we set out not just to recreate Pirates of the Caribbean Online. We set out to reimagine it. To breathe new life into it. To bring it back from the dead and grow it into the best game on earth. To grow it into something bigger than it once was.

We set out to make it into a legend… to become The Legend of Pirates Online.

Today’s update is a major step forward toward making this dream come true.

Strange black marks have begun appearing on the palms of pirates who dare to claim certain cursed treasures, bringing with them an overwhelming sense of dread and an ancient terror stirring in the deepest waters.

The legends speak of a massive beast that once ruled these seas, now freed from its underwater prison and hungering for those who bear the mark.

When the very sea itself seems to turn against ye, and death stalks yer every voyage, what price would ye pay to lift a curse that may be the only thing keeping ye human?

For generations, pirates have sailed these waters, thinking they ruled the seas. They were wrong.

Something ancient stirs in the abyss. Something that remembers when these waters belonged to it alone. Massive tentacles that can crush ships like driftwood, a hunger that's been growing for centuries, starving for fresh souls.

This is the nightmare that only legends are made of.

The Kraken has awakened from its slumber!

Deep beneath the Caribbean waves lies a graveyard of shattered dreams.

A vast cavern where the beast drags its conquered trophies. Broken masts litter the waters like tombstones. Shattered hulls rest in eternal silence. The bones of a thousand ships tell the story of crews who dared challenge the deep, and lost to Her.

This is where legends come to die.... but for the boldest pirates, it's also where the greatest treasures wait. Amid the wreckage of fallen ships lie riches beyond yer wildest imagination!.

Loot that crews died protecting now waits for those brave enough to claim it, and some treasures are worth the risk.

The Caribbean skies are changing, and the seas will never be the same!

Waves are choppier, the skies are darker, and torrential rain can come pouring down!

What's more, when storm clouds roll in and the rain begins to fall, something strange happens to the very air itself. The cannons ring louder, hit harder, and leave deeper scars in enemy hulls. The storm seems to make every round of Thunderbolt stronger!

The Navy and EITC have taken notice of the Kraken!

Kraken Hunter Fleets now patrol the Caribbean, searching for something. Being that they seek Her, their ships must be bristling with unusual weaponry and cargo worth a king's ransom. Whatever they're planning, it can't be good. What are they really after?

Stop them before they complete their mission, and their treasure could be yers!

Our team has been working around the clock preparing for this expansion.

This update introduces over 150 new items to the Caribbean, including more than 100 new weapons. Our Content and Game Development teams crafted each item to feel authentic to the Pirates Online universe while offering something fresh for both new and veteran players. These new items are available all across the Caribbean, and there are so many new extraordinary skills that we already know ye’re going to love. There are new tattoos, clothes, rams, and even more! And to accommodate it all, we've also expanded the bank storage with a fifth page!

This is the biggest loot expansion yet for The Legend of Pirates Online!

A few weeks leading up to the launch of Kraken's Wake, we reached out to Mike Goslin, the original creator of Pirates of the Caribbean Online and the former Vice President of Disney Online and Disney's VR Studio. We let him in on the surprise and asked if he was interested in seeing the work we had done and the reaction from the community. He kindly accepted, and we set a date!
 
What followed was truly special. Mike experienced the full Kraken encounter firsthand, watching as the ancient beast emerged from the depths. He played through the final Davy Jones cutscene, witnessing the culmination of story elements that had been years in the making. But perhaps most memorable was the impromptu meet and greet we organized on Abassa Tortuga.
 
Mike was genuinely surprised by what he witnessed. Hundreds of players packed onto Tortuga simultaneously, something that would have been impossible in the original Pirates Online. The community came together in a way that left him completely speechless. He was also absolutely flabbergasted at how many players were able to fit into a singular game location... nearly 300 people! Almost the entire population of Abassa, fit into the beach of Tortuga... and the game ran (somewhat) smoothly!

Seeing his creation not only preserved, but improved was beyond what he had imagined possible. Mike was so thrilled with what we've accomplished.

Knowing that the original creator himself believes in what we're building means everything to our team.

Ten years ago, we were just dreamers with an impossible vision. Today, as the Kraken rises from the depths and storm clouds gather on the horizon, that dream has become something none of us could have imagined back then. What started as a small team refusing to let a beloved game die has grown into a living legend that continues to evolve and surprise.

Looking ahead, ye may be surprised to know that we're already more than halfway done with our next expansion, but our lips are sealed on that for now... ;) We have such incredible grand plans for this game in the future. We truly believe that there's so much more life left to this game, and we fully intend to keep it going as long as we can.

The sea may stir and ancient terrors may awaken, but one thing remains constant: this community's spirit is stronger than any Kraken, and this dream is far from over.

The greatest adventures still lie ahead, and we'll sail toward them together, just as we always have.
